Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers
We welcome the involvement of parents and carers in supporting learning and our commitment to working with families has been recognised by the achievement of the Leading Parent Partnership Award.
Many of our students find it hard to discuss their daily activities, feelings and wishes with others. So that we can understand our students better, interpret different behaviours and responses and engage them in meaningful dialogue, it is helpful that everyone involved between home and school is kept informed of significant events or changes of circumstance.
We encourage frequent contact to help parents, carers and staff ensure consistency in response to certain events or behaviours. This helps to make life seem more predictable and safe for many students and supports them to learn well and make good progress. The Barnet Council SEND Information, Advice & Support Service (formerly known as Parent Partnership) is also available to support families and schools.
The extent and frequency of contact will depend on the particular needs of your son or daughter. In addition to Parental Consultation Evenings and the more formal Annual Review meeting, contact may take the form of a home/school book, regular informal telephone conversations or regular email. Parents are of course welcome to come into the school, by appointment, at any time.
There are often other opportunities for parents to be involved in the life of the school: at coffee mornings, workshops or other special events. Please check Parent Notices on our website, or see our newsletters for the latest information.
