The Windmill School
3rd February 2017
A number of preparatory meetings have now been held at the Department for Education, following the approval our proposals for The Windmill School. The search is now on for a suitable location for the school to be sited. The Windmill School will be a specialist school for learners aged 5 to 18 years with a diagnosed autistic spectrum condition and an Education, Health & Care Plan. When full, it will offer places for 90 children and young people whose autism is the major barrier to their learning and who would find the busy environments of either mainstream or generic special schools too challenging.
We have received tremendous interest from parents across the local area and beyond and would like to thank all those who have shown their support for our proposal. We look forward to meeting the challenges to come in order to establish what we intend to be an outstanding education facility that will complement the other fantastic schools and special provisions in Barnet. During the pre-opening phase of our development, we are working closely with officers from the Department for Education, Education Funding Agency, LocatEd and the London Borough of Barnet to ensure our vision becomes a reality.
We will use this page to keep you updated on progress and intend to hold further events for parents, carers and other interested groups once a site has been secured and we can be confident of an opening date.
